5 Free Apps to Help You KEEP Those Resolutions
When you ask other moms in your circle about their New Year resolutions, you are most likely going to hear one or more of the following:
- They want to lose x amount of weight.
- They want to eat healthier and get the family eating better too.
- They want to be more organized.
- They want to have a cleaner home.
- They want to get out of debt.
While these goals for 2015 are great goals, the experts say that most people give up on resolutions in the first two weeks of a new year. It takes 21 days to make something a habit, and most people don’t even make it to 14. Even sadder, they say only 8 percent of people actually succeed in reaching their goal.
Think about what you want to accomplish this year, is your resolution listed above? How fantastic would it feel if you could stick with your plan and be in that 8 percent? As someone who stuck with it last year, I can tell you it feels pretty amazing.
Being successful with resolutions isn’t easy, but here are five FREE apps that can help you on your journey:
-
MyFitnessPal – If your goal is to lose weight, this app will be your new bff. Enter in your height, weight, age, and goals and it will tell your daily calorie goal. As you eat, enter in foods and it will keep track of your calories consumed. It even has a barcode scanner! You can see what percent was carbs, protein, and fat, and at the end of the day it will tell you how much you would weigh in six weeks if you ate that way every day. You can connect with friends and other apps like RunKeeper and Fitbit, and share your success. I LOVE this app!
-
Fooducate – Want to eat healthier but aren’t sure where to start? Fooducate is a handy little app that quickly and easily lets you make better food choices. It also has a barcode scanner. Scan a product, and it will give it a letter score ranging from A+ to F. It will tell you the good and the bad about the food, as well as the calories in a serving. This app will teach you how some products marked as “all natural” or “low fat” can be deceiving health-wise. -
Cozi Family Organizer – This app will get you and the family organized. You can each download the app and sync your information, schedules, shopping lists and more. Make to-do lists, errand lists, grocery lists, schedules, and family journal entries. As an added bonus, have your nanny or caregiver download it too, so you two can share notes and schedules as well.
-
FlyHelper – Have you heard of FlyLady? FlyLady is a motivating plan that helps you get your home de-cluttered and clean in about 15 minutes a day. FlyHelper is the handy dandy app that goes along with it, and has a daily checklist of tasks. Tasks range from taking two minutes to clean off the bathroom counter to starting the dishwasher. I love this program, because everything is in baby steps and you won’t feel overwhelmed at all.
-
Goodbudget – If you’ve ever heard of Dave Ramsey, you’ve probably heard of the envelope system. This is where you put money in envelopes (designated for food, fuel, bills, rent, credit card debt, gifts, entertainment…) as soon as you are paid and you only spend the amount in the designated envelope. Goodbudget is a digital version of an envelope system that helps you set up a budget and stick with it. You’ll see how much you can afford to put towards your debt, how much money you can afford to save, and other monetary amounts you have allotted towards bills, fun, and food. It’s a super simple app that allows you to make a plan to get out of debt and start saving.
What if your New Year’s resolution isn’t listed above? No worries! Do a quick search on your phone in the app section. Your mind will be blown by the huge selection of apps related to your resolutions. They have apps for everything from breaking bad habits to meeting new people.
